Dance Programs and Class Descriptions
Pre-Ballet and Tumbling (3-6 yrs): This class is structured to develop motor skills, coordination, and grace while fostering a love for dancing. This class will enjoy creative movement and introduce basic dance technique and vocabulary in a fun and exciting manner. Students will learn ballet movements that will build their confidence and give them a sense of achievement. The skills they develop in this playful environment will lay a foundation for future technique classes.
Ballet/Pointe: The ballet program places emphasis on teaching proper ballet technique. Developing a strong technical foundation will enable the student to make continual progress. We do not sacrifice the education of a student to teach “a dance.” In order to cover all the elements of ballet the older students take a longer class. More advanced students take multiple weekly classes. Each dancer seeking to go on Pointe is individually evaluated
Hip-Hop: Our goal for the hip-hop classes is to lay a good foundation in technique, while exposing the students to a variety of styles, such as Broadway & classic as well as the latest trends in hip-hop choreography. The technique will develop greater body awareness, flexibility, strength & control. The choreography will further develop musicality style and performance personality. From this fun, high energy class, a student may continue to study jazz with a good base to build on or they may choose to follow today’s latest craze in hip hop.
Jazz: Jazz is more classical than hip hop. Specific jazz turns, jumps and leaps are taught in line with correct body alignment. Coordination, flexibility, musicality, endurance and control are also developed. Students at every level enjoy this dynamic style of dance. A variety of jazz choreography will be introduced and explored. This class is a great compliment to ballet training.
Tap: Tap is an exercise of the feet and mind. Our program starts with the basics, continues to mastery and builds from there to complex phrasing. Timing, rhythm and stylization will be developed through classic and rhythm style choreography. These classes are challenging and fun, both physically and mentally.
Acro: Acrobatics is one of the performing arts, and is also practiced as a sport. Acrobatics involves difficult feats of balance, agility and motor coordination. Nearly any performance or sport which involves full-body activity-- especially in short, highly controlled bursts of activity-- can be considered acrobatics. We offer Acrobatics classes to suit your child’s developmental needs and improve his or her motor skills, coordination, balance and flexibility in a playful atmosphere with experienced, skilled instructors.
